About Us

The Veronika Portsmuth Choir Academy was created to open up and develop new perspectives in choral music culture, bringing to life special and unique major musical projects and offering self-improvement in an unconventional form with a novel approach for both choir singers and conductors.

Artistic Director and Conductor

Veronika Portsmuth

Veronika Veronika Portsmuth (1980) has completed her doctoral studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the supervision of Prof. T.Kaljuste/ K.Kotta/ A.Vurma and has participated in several international master classes (Filippo Maria Bressan, Eri Klas, Frieder Bernius, etc.).

Today she is continuing her studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in the field of innovative choral conducting with Jim Daus Hjernøe. He has also worked with several renowned ensembles, including the Estonian Concert Choir and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, has been a conducting lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Tallinn Music High School, a singer at the Estonian Philharmonic, and has given lectures and trainings as a mentor to the Choir Association.

Portsmuth’s interest in chamber operas and Nordic music has found expression in the Nordic choral music concert series and in performances of Helena Tulve and Sunleif Rasmussen’s chamber operas in Tallinn.

In addition, she has also released 2 solo albums with arrangements of Lembit Veevo’s choral music and her own music, which is inspired by the Faroe Islands.

She has been a conductor at several song festivals, and was the artistic director of the 2011 youth song festival Maa ja ilm. Portsmuth has created several choirs and currently conducts the concert choir, chamber choir, and pop choir of the choir academy of her name.

Veronika Portsmuth has been the chairwoman of the board of the Estonian Mixed Choirs Association since 2014.
