Our History

founded in August 2017

The Veronika Portsmuth Choir Academy was created to open up and develop new perspectives in choral music culture, bringing to life special and unique major musical projects and offering self-improvement in an unconventional form with a novel approach for both choir singers and conductors.

Choirs to Join

Our concert choir singers are persistent in order to master their vocal parts and, if necessary, work independently with the support of auxiliary materials.

Want to sing both in Maarjamaa and in the wider world? Travel around the world with us!

Our busy chorus has reached China and Indonesia, Riga and Helsinki, Malta and London, but the Caribbean awaits soon. In every corner of the world, we have picked up gold and silver diplomas from various choir competitions and given successful concerts.

Top-level joint concerts with friendship choirs from Sweden, Great Britain and the USA have also been given in our home city of Tallinn.

Veronika Portsmuth

Veronika Portsmuth is graduated from the doctoral program of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater (2014, supervised by professor Tõnu Kaljuste, associate professor Kerri Kotta and associate professor Allan Vurma). She guides various choirs and contributes to the development of choral and contemporary music more broadly as a teacher and mentor, leading the work of various range of organizations and associations in the field of choral music; directing and performing vocal solo projects.

«The Academy is not a building, but the atmosphere and spirit of a conscious singer cultivation and various developing projects. Choir Academy is thus the creation of a root system so that the singer can leaf out and blossom break out. Today’s living environment favors lifelong learning and so on even a person who wants to in his free time could experience it engage in singing. In front of you are singers for whom singing is hobby. But every hobby can be done at a high level.»
