On May 22, the Georgian male ensemble \u201cGurjaani\u201d will give a concert together with the Veronika Portsmuth Choir Academy Concert Choir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
The concert is part of the Georgian ensemble\u2019s Baltic tour, and we are pleased to host them in Tallinn and present their vocal music culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Georgian guests will perform both secular and sacred Georgian vocal music, ranging from traditional folk heritage to works by contemporary composers. The Veronika Portsmuth Choir Academy Concert Choir will present a selection of Estonian sacred choral music, from folk melodies to 21st-century choral works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conductors of the concert are Ilia Datuashvili and Veronika Portsmuth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The concert will take place on May 22 at 7:00 PM in St. John\u2019s Church (Jaani Church) in Tallinn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ensemble was founded in 1967 in the town of Gurjaani, Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its repertoire includes traditional songs from various regions of Georgia as well as Georgian church music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ensemble has performed in numerous concerts and participated in competitions and television programs both in Georgia and abroad \u2014 including in France, Spain, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, and elsewhere. They have won prestigious awards at festivals and competitions, and their concerts have been warmly received everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since 2009, the ensemble has been conducted by Ilia Datuashvili, under whose leadership a children\u2019s folk music choir was also established alongside the ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gurjaani has recorded several albums featuring remarkably beautiful Georgian folk music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ensemble\u2019s mission is to preserve and promote Georgian folk and church music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
